Post Closing Life With Montage: 100-Day Plan
In our Post-Closing Life With Montage series, we dive into what founders and management teams can expect once we make an investment in their company. What does the day-to-day look like? How and when are we involved in the company? What expectations or reporting requirements do we have? This series explores all of these questions to paint a detailed picture of post-closing life.
The first 100 days (or roughly quarter) after closing is always a busy (but fun!) time for us as we get to know our new partners. This time period is crucial in setting the tone for a successful partnership. That’s why we work with companies to develop a 100-day plan to ensure nothing slips through the cracks during this transition period.
While every 100-day plan will differ due to the idiosyncrasies of each company, there are some broad approaches that are helpful. Most workstreams are administrative in nature, while some are more strategic. Some examples include:
- We work with management during the first 100 days to lay the foundation for the broader 3-year strategy for the company, ensuring everyone is aligned on the vision for the path forward.
- Some companies may want to deepen their management bench – we regularly collaborate with our founders and management teams to lead executive recruitment processes, helping to relieve the significant time burden to find top performers.
- These first days offer a perfect opportunity to scan for and acknowledge risks, providing occasion to safeguard against potential pitfalls such as insurance choices, supplier or customer concentration, or HR precautions. In addition to serving as a sounding board, we can help through introductions to high-quality vendors, strategies for diversification, or support in refining HR or other practices.
- We bring fresh verbiage, perception, and increased analytics to our partners to help refine financial reporting and key performance indicators.
